The Pediatric Thyroid Center at Manning Family Children’s cares for all pediatric patients with thyroid nodules, cysts, masses, and cancer in a monthly multidisciplinary clinic. . This multidisciplinary clinic includes specialists from the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT), Endocrinology, and Hematology/Oncology departments who collaboratively evaluate the patient’s needs and make recommendations for care. Further evaluation may include an evaluation by other specialists and may include additional diagnostic testing such as ultrasound, nuclear medicine thyroid exams, or biopsy.
Thyroid Cancer is the most common pediatric endocrine tumor, with about
5% of all thyroid cancers occurring in children and adolescents. Thyroid
cancer typically presents as a painless neck mass without any other symptoms.
When treated appropriately, it carries an excellent prognosis with long-term
survival rates over 95%.

To refer a patient, please contact the Dedicated Provider referral Department by phone at 504.894.6778 or fax the patient's information to 504.896.2704. The endocrinology nurse navigator will contact the patient to schedule the visit. The Thyroid Clinic is held at the main campus at Manning Family Children's once a month, but the team is available for any questions about a patient throughout the month.
