Conditions we treat
Our Orthopedic Department treats a comprehensive range of conditions for
children, adolescents, and young adults. Below are the most common conditions
our team addresses with specialized care.
-
Fractures - Our team manages more than
8,000 clinic visits per year solely focused on fracture care. Whether your
child needs a simple splint or more intensive treatment, we offer advanced,
age-appropriate care informed by both adult and pediatric orthopedic training.
This training gave us a unique perspective on techniques, healing timelines,
need for supportive therapy, and use of conservative treatment that are
often slightly different than adult patients. From same-day reductions,
dedicated cast techs, specialized OR time, and psychological support,
our priority is helping your child heal and return to their daily activities
quickly and safely.
-
Spine - We provide one of the region’s most experienced spine programs,
treating patients for
scoliosis,
kyphosis,
stress injuries,
trauma, and
back pain. Using a multidisciplinary approach, we employ the latest techniques and
technology, supported by a dedicated spine team, to ensure a safe experience
and optimal outcomes for every child.
-
Sports Injuries - We understand the unique needs of young athletes and tailor treatment
to match their growing (or recently finished growing) physiology and anatomy.
We were one of the first centers in the region to use quad tendon autograft in
ACL reconstructions and have refined this technique, achieving a 2.5% re-rupture rate without
additional procedures in adolescents. Alongside advanced shoulder and
elbow procedures, support from physicians, advanced providers, athletic
trainers, therapists, and psychologists ensures each child’s rapid,
safe return to play.
-
Hip Preservation - We have one of the few hip preservation specialists in the region that
can help adolescent and young adult patients prevent future arthritis
with proper assessment, initial conservative treatment, and surgical intervention
to provide long-term hip health.
-
Limb and Foot Deformities - Our experienced orthopedists treat a range of complex and simple limb,
hip, and foot deformities. Treatment options include observation, conservative
treatment with orthotics or therapy, and, when necessary, minimally invasive
procedures or complex limb salvage techniques to ensure your child receives
care optimized for function and mobility.
-
Neuromuscular Conditions - For conditions requiring multidisciplinary care, our clinic provides
a collaborative team approach, allowing families to see all necessary
providers in one visit. This streamlined process enables a comprehensive
and individualized plan for each patient that could include conservative
treatment all the way up to the latest clinical trials. Instead of monthly
or weekly visits to the hospital, this approach allows patients to see
all their providers in one day every 6-12 months.
-
Hand - Our fellowship-trained pediatric hand surgeon is an expert in treating
traumatic injuries, congenital abnormalities, and
brachial plexus injuries.
-
Tumors - With access to the only orthopedic oncology department in the Greater
New Orleans area, children can be evaluated and treated for any lump,
bump, mass, or radiographic finding. We are equipped to treat all tumors,
whether cancerous or non-cancerous. Supported by a team of musculoskeletal
radiologists, pathologists, and oncologists, we ensure each child receives
the most advanced and effective treatment for optimal outcomes.
